Soil Remediation
In Guam in 2003, through its subsidiary Aliron Far East LLC, Aliron entered into an agreement with the Guam Power Authority to install and operate a soil remediation plant located in Agat, Guam (below). Completed in 2004, the facility was the first Soil Thermal Desorption Plant constructed in the entire Marianas Islands. The soil remediation plant was designed and built to effectively clean soils contaminated with various petroleum products.
The ASTEC plant is a self-contained, rotary kiln thermal-destruction unit designed to incinerate hydrocarbons within petroleum-contaminated soils at high temperatures, thus rendering the soils permanently inert. A full complement of environmental monitoring controls to ensure complete thermal destruction of soil contaminants is housed in a compact control room that is an integral part of the unit. The facility utilizes a high-efficiency baghouse, dual cyclones and oversized quench tank as part of its critical emission-control operation. The air pollution control system provides for the removal of particulates, acid gases and byproducts of the thermal destruction of organic chemicals. Highly sensitive sensors are used to monitor all exhaust gases to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
