IT SERVICES
The record-keeping systems used in most medical institutions today are cumbersome and antiquated. "When I worked for the U.S. Army's Defense Medical Systems program, I saw how little coordination there is between different departments and agencies for tracking individual medical records," says Aliron President Cora Alisuag. "I've seen patients carrying boatloads of their medical records from one doctor to the next-in many cases, everything is on paper." To alleviate this problem, Alisuag working with IT experts created a portable, secure, interoperable technology called CORAnet. Among its features:
- Efficient & timely access to medical information during emergencies
- Real-time online communication of information and sharing of medical records and other information between physicians and staff attending a patient
- Consolidation of patient's medical profile from different data bases
- Logging of events and conversations between medical personnel during an emergency
- Reduction of healthcare costs in preparation and maintenance of paper-based records
CoraNet Solutions, LLC enables doctors and emergency medical personnel to have immediate, secure and patient authorized access to a patient's medical files in case of an emergency. The CORAnet system provides significant benefits over any other existing technology, which are generally limited to inefficient and outdated technology. Via an integrated wireless and multimedia enabled system, CORAnet makes patient medical files available to the emergency room while the patient is still being transported to the hospital. This system enables doctors to provide instructions to paramedics or other medical personnel to conduct tests or prepare the patient as might be appropriate even before they arrive at the emergency room, independent of the geographic location of the patient and the doctor.
The CORANET technology also applies to non-emergency health care, as everyone can carry his/her own medical records in their person like a credit card, jewelry, imbedded chip or through their cell phones. Among its features:
Description of the Technology:
Two key concepts serve as the underpinnings of the innovation. First, medical files are recorded in an electronic format that can be stored in a small password/fingerprint protected card carried by an individual. Second, a platform independent software system that allows for password/fingerprint protected access of data on this card. Secure sharing of these files over the Internet is enabled, as is access and update of these files by medical personnel even when they are not physically present at the scene of the emergency.
Since hospital personnel and offsite personnel have different medical information requirements, two versions of the CORAnet software are provided. The version used by the remote practitioner is called the "Mobile CORAnet" (CORAnet-M) and the one used by the doctor at the hospital is called the "Base CORAnet" (CORAnet-B). The interface and capabilities of each version are customized for the different tasks to which each of the software is targeted. CORAnet-M and CORAnet-B versions are JAVA-based software, enabling download and execution from any JAVA enabled web browser. This allows the download of software in the instance when a prospective user does not have the CORAnet software already installed on their computer.
